Baker Hughes: US rig drops 1 unit to 265

The US drilling rig count fell by 1 unit to reach 265 during the week ended June 26, data from Baker Hughes indicate. The report shows an overall decrease of 702 units from year-ago levels.

Offshore units were unchanged this week at 11 rigs. A total of 254 rigs were drilling on land, down 1 unit from last week. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters was unchanged at 0.

Rigs targeting oil fell 1 unit to 188, down 605 from the 793 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-targeted rigs were unchanged at 75. This time last year, 173 units were drilling for gas.

Texas and Oklahoma each gained a rig week-over-week, reaching 112 and 10 rigs running, respectively. New Mexico’s 1-unit drop brought the state’s total rigs to 50. Colorado and Wyoming also dropped 1 unit each, bringing the states’ rig counts to 5 and 0, respectively.

Eight states remained unchanged week over week, namely Louisiana 32; Pennsylvania, 22; North Dakota 10; West Virginia, 5; California, 4; Alaska, 3; Ohio, 0; and Utah, 0.

The rig count in Canada is down 4 units to 13. This time a year ago, 124 rigs were working. Oil-directed rigs were down 1 unit this week to 4, while those targeting gas dropped 3 units to 9.
